I have been remiss about writing a blog lately. It is summer, what can I say. Lol
Oh, I am still plugging away on my little projects however what is the old saying? “Life is what happens while your making plans” …so be it. I remember an inspirational speaker once saying that it is always good to have some sort of motivation besides yourself. I couldn’t agree more. I have been so busy! In the end however, I am writing these children’s books because I have to do something positive for this planet in some small way! Each time I read the newspaper or watch the news, it is always so negative and I creates what my son calls a biased perception. By this I mean, for example, if I were to believe someone is always going to disappoint me, then sure enough, this is going to happen. I don’t want a skewed negative perspective about the future of this planet. because all I am reading and seeing is negative things about what is happening in this world. Frankly, I do not feel it is necessarily good to be aware of what is going on in the world based on our current media services. Too much focus on ratings and business and not enough about the bare facts of a story. As writers we know we can put a spin on any story to turn it whatever way we want. We can turn a hero into a villain with a few short sentences if placed in the right arena and I know this is happening in the world right now and so much more. However, as Whitney Houston’s song says, “I BELIEVE THE CHILDREN ARE OUR FUTURE. TEACH THEM WELL AND LET THEM LEAD THE WAY.” My little books are not the norm, however who says the norm is currently correct? I am teaching children about nature and beauty and a perspective about the environment that isn’t easy to find in children’s books right now. It isn’t much but it makes feel like I am at least doing more than complaining or lamenting the good ole days! We are where we are and that is that. So, my question is how can we at least do not harm if we cannot help? For myself, I have decided to NOT focus on what is going on in the world that is having a negative impact, or the imbalance. My hope is that somehow Mother Earth will put things back in balance before it is too late. How? I have no idea how others can do this, only myself. By keep slugging away, enjoying the children I meet and the wildlife and so on. I do my best to see only the potential and uniqueness of every child I work with. This is why I write my books. To perhaps spark something that will lead to their unique greatness, to the next person who creates a way to change global warming, corruption in politics, and all the rest of it. The young don’t need to feel they have no future, that they can’t make a difference. This is why I continue to write the children’s books, to keep at least a spark of hope fanned…so that perhaps one day the future adults of this planet will turn it into a burning fire that will cleanse and put this planet back in balance. I applaud every writer out there who is striving to put positive back into this world.

If you are like me, you use weebly education for your website. At first when I logged in here, I was in a panic however so far, so good. I am have had some trouble navigating and there seems to be more steps to get to the editing aspect of my website, however other aspects seem also to be more in-depth with more avenues to reach areas. I never got around to dealing with it for education purposes since I got so busy with other areas so I don't know how it is for other folks who used it more often however I think they understand the original use was different and are making it easier to leave their site. I was reading their customer support is swamped however it only switched over August 1st so everyone is likely in a panic!
I for one don't like change. It is probably because I am older. The young today have had technology as part of their lives from the get go and can accept change so much easier and are more willing to go with the flow with changes, however I know, as you get older and more set in your ways, changes can be difficult even if they are necessary! I have yet to figure out how to get the background colour on this site other than white. At this point, I am not willing to mess with it. If I had a back up copy, perhaps, however not right now, after being ill with COVID and infection, I am taking my time, as any wise person would, when it comes to creating and dealing with even more up-upheavals and change in one's life! Projects are going along slowly but surely since they have to be juggled with daily living. Isn't that just life? A person has to survive in this world as well as do the things they want to do. I am fortunate because I really enjoy my work-a-day job so even though switching gears can be a challenge, as well as finding ways to do everything I want to do, it doesn't mean it can't be done, it just means I have learned to become a plodder and not a dasher! I will get there when I get there, and if I don't get there, then I don't get there. It is all about the journey anyhow and I must say, I am enjoying all the different aspects of being a plodding Indie publisher! It isn't always easy, however it is always possible! If you are feeling discouraged because you lost your momentum and can't seem to get back into the writing and/or illustrating groove, don't worry about it. I consider this time to be the "composting" time when everything is perking. Eventually it will all suddenly become clear and you will be right back at it and with more vigour and enthusiasm since whatever has you bogged down and avoiding, will have worked it's way out. I found this with other artists in many fields! So hang in there! Just keep on keeping on! |
