Will the typos ever end?!?!? I can't believe I open up book three and still find errors and typos! Sure, I am not really designed for consistency but seriously, you would think I could make up my mind on a few things! I don't know if I will ever have an error free book and I think I am reaching that place of saying to hell with it, if you are too anal to get past the typos than too bad!
It has been an interesting journey concerning this book. I have always believed that there is a reason things happen the way they do. Sometimes those reasons are clear, and sometimes they are not but always in hind sight you can look back and go, ahh, that is why that was like that. If I had published the book at this time, I would have done it before I met this person and things have gone very different. What appears sometimes to be a bad thing, can turn out to be a good thing indeed. And that seems to be the way things have gone with my first book. I have been on a fence in so many ways about so many things related to being a POD writer. Do I go with these people, or do I go with those or do I go with both? I have been swinging back and forth as I waited for my proofer who seemed to be taking a very long time. Then I come to find out when I get the third proof back, that I had accidentally not uploaded to PDF the correct version thanks to Indesign and how confusing it can be! In the end it was all good because in the meantime Createspace has been merged into Kindle and they are getting the bugs worked out as I do the same thing with the final stage of my last proof. Not a bad thing! And I also bumped into someone who has strongly advised me to re-examine my using Ingram Sparks to do the book. So all and all, the re-doing of edits is not a bad thing since it also means I am finalizing who I want to do my printing with. When you think about it, isn't that how life is? If you are not sure of something you put off making a decision or going somewhere, etc and really it is your little voice that is putting you off. So the day there is a major car pile up on the highway you miss because you forgot your coffee and went back for it, or you put off making a major purchase somewhere and it is just as well because they would have taken your money before going bankrupt. I have been delaying and mulling over many things including why I am doing this blog (which is why I haven't!) and other things in my life as I transition from single parent to empty nester examining all my options and what direction I want to go with my life at this time. One thing that becomes resounding clear, my love of writing is always at the top of my list.....

I have been doing more reading and reviewing for Amazon.ca via a review group I joined. Such a lovely group of people! The three I have read so far had all had great merit in their own way and thankfully all very different! I am not really interested with the romance end of things that seems to be predominant in almost all genres these days and I can relate however be for warned, I am a prude and there won't be anything hot or heavy in my books! lol! I never would kiss and tell! lol! I am going to create a link review page on this website. Why not? If I can help other authors find their way, what the hey! Just been reading about the golden thirds for writing. I know it well for painting however I thought this was interesting. One third to writing, I third to online promoting and one third to helping other writers. This all sounds fine and dandy but a person has to eat! And I think there is an elemet of the creative process that is getting over looked. When one is in the groove, it isn't just because you flipped a switch and said, "ok, now I am going to do this". Creativity, no matter how disciplined you are, needs time to compost and the sooner that is recognized the easier it is to really get in the groove. Many think procrastination is doing nothing, and I disagree! In that time when you feel your not being productive, it can be the most productive time of all! Why do you think you go to bed with an issue and wake up with the answer! Just because your not actually physically DOING something doesn't mean your not processing and doing something! Which means when you try to bounce from one third to the next and back, there has to be a grace period where you cut yourself some slack or even your procrastination time will be wasted! I have learned, less is more sometimes and there are times when you have to go out, kick up your heels and have fun and leave the golden thirds, fourths or whatever your using at the door! Trust me, your poor ole creative mind will love you for it! Happy writing and promoting! So the book writing journey continues. Such a huge learning curve but so interesting! I have been so busy writing, I have been a little amiss about writing here! However I am having a blast and shall continue to share what I am learning as I go!
The latest is rumours about CreateSpace and how this will effect Canadians. Personally I am working hard towards learning Adobe IN Design and getting a clear PDF that I can send off to Ingram Sparks whom I have found has really wonderful reviews IF you are not faint hearted about technology. Also been learning about promoting one's book when you are a POD author. It is as much part of the process as the actually writing of the book! Speaking of which, learning so much about the editing and writing of the books as well. I am a VERY detailed and fussy person and I know this, so I know what sort of product I want! When I first started this writing a book business I had no intention of doing anything with it. But friends (and I know I am starting a sentence with a conjunction!), were so happy with the read, I was encouraged to put it out there more. Have you ever painted your walls in your home and then decided the carpet or curtains looked shabby? Well, I have found editing is a lot like this. Every time I make a decision about for instance which style to use...such as British, American or Canadian (which is really a mix of both!), then I am off looking at other changes that are needed. Then you start getting fussy about other little things and before you know it, you and your editor friend are on the third proof (which MAY be the last if I am careful!). Same when you design your own covers. Funny how much better and easier the second one is compared to the first. Photoshop is a great program but it is not that easy until you have put some hours into it! And I feel like if I was being paid by the hour to learn it, I would be a millionaire! Now I am starting to get the tax things straightened away (after being out of the country, I have enough of that with my own country I had to deal with! NOT my cup of tea for sure! So, all in all, still much to do and learn however when your doing everything, to do it right, I suspect time is a friend! Happy writing! |
